Four Generations of Expertise in Sterile Filling
What began in 1949 as one man's vision is today a story full of innovation and consistency. Wilhelm Hefft developed the first care solution for scleral lenses back then – a milestone for the contact lens industry.
Today, Alfred B. Hefft leads the company in its fourth generation. With 24 dedicated employees, we produce several million sterile liquid products annually – exclusively in Germany according to the highest standards.
For more than seven decades, the Hefft name has stood for the development of specialized products for contact lens care.
What began in 1949 with a solution for scleral lenses evolved over several generations into a company with a broad product range.
Today, the range of services includes not only products for contact lens care but also sterile filling as well as the development and manufacture of nasal sprays.

In 1968, the second generation, Alfred Hefft, founded his own chemical laboratory in Munich. In addition to products for contact lens care, a wide variety of chemical-technical products were developed there.
With the advent of the first soft, hydrophilic contact lenses in the early 1970s, a new need arose. The laboratory then developed one of the early solutions for hydrating and caring for soft, hydrophilic contact lenses.
In 1972, the company "Chemische Produkte A. Hefft" was founded in Munich.
In the same year, Dipl.-Ing. Alfred W. Hefft, the third generation, joined the company and continued the development of the products.
Contalin, the first cleaner for PMMA for hard contact lenses, evolved into CL 11, which was successfully used for over 50 years.
In 1975, the sole proprietorship "Chemische Produkte A. Hefft" moved from Munich to Valley in Upper Bavaria.
At the new location, the range of contact lens care products was further expanded. In addition, two new products for spectacle care, the anti-fog agent Antifog and the spectacle cleaner C-o-M, were introduced to the market.
In 1983, OPTOSOL Chem. Produkte A. Hefft is founded. Just one year later, increasing demand, especially from Taiwan, leads to a move to a new production building in Miesbach. The new building expands production capacities and at the same time creates the conditions for entering contract manufacturing.
In 1997, the peroxide system SeptoSol/NeutraSol was developed.
1998 - Establishment and certification of the quality management system for medical devices according to DIN EN ISO 13485 and Annex II of EC Directive 93/42/EEC.
Today's "OPTOSOL Chemische Produkte GmbH" is founded in 2001 and Alfred W. Hefft becomes managing partner.
With Alfred B. Hefft joining the company in 2005, the family tradition is continued in its fourth generation.
In 2006, an investment is made in a fully automatic filling system for glass vials, and in 2008, for plastic bottles, further expanding and modernizing production capacity.
From 2012-2016, the production facilities and premises for sterile filling are comprehensively modernized and brought up to the latest state of the art. At the same time, investments are made in systems for processing snap variants, including, for example, fully automatic filling of nasal sprays.
The range of services is expanded in 2019 to include the manufacture of food supplements. New innovative products such as sensitive all-in-one solution, nasal sprays, contact lens cleaners, and much more were developed.
2021 - Alfred B. Hefft becomes Managing Director of OPTOSOL GmbH
By taking over the management, Alfred B. Hefft assumes even greater responsibility for the strategic and operational development of the company.
With the purchase of the adjacent building No. 8 in 2022, the production facility is expanded to a total of approximately 2,000 m².
As one of the first companies in Germany, OPTOSOL Chemische Produkte GmbH is certified in 2023 according to Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR). This marks another important milestone in the company's development and quality assurance.
In 2023, extensive investments were made in fully automated packaging, including a tamper-evident solution with the Box TEC 600 from Christ.
In 2024, Alfred B. Hefft takes over 100% of the sole proprietorship A. Hefft and from this point holds all shares in OPTOSOL GmbH. He thus continues the family tradition in the fourth generation as the sole shareholder and managing director.
To this day, all production facilities are continuously modernized and brought up to the latest technical standards. At the same time, continuous investments are made in environmental protection measures.

In our own production facility in Miesbach, we combine state-of-the-art technology with German engineering.
We have been producing in Miesbach since 1984. Short delivery routes, direct communication, and full control over every production step.
Our filling systems operate under cleanroom conditions according to ISO 13485. Sterile filling is not just a requirement – it is our core competence.
Regional raw materials, digital e-instructions for use instead of paper inserts, and short transport routes – we produce responsibly.
All products are certified according to DIN EN ISO 13485 and comply with the EU MDR. When sourcing our raw materials, we prioritize regionality and the highest quality.
For the production of sterile and low-germ medical devices, we have qualified rooms and facilities according to DIN EN ISO 14644.
